Welcome to the website of ‘Studio Judith Dubois’
Judith Dubois has her artistic roots in Italy and this is still clearly evident in her work. After completing high school, she left the Netherlands and spent nine years living and working in Florence.
The sure lines of her pastel figure drawings attest to her former occupation as a teacher of life drawing.
Her sand paintings and concrete frescoes reflect her inquiring nature.
During a working trip in California she became fascinated by the many diverse and unique colours of sand and soil and began work on a series of sand paintings. She undertook the challenge of ‘creating a painting of the landscape using the materials of the landscape itself.’ Ever since, she always gathers samples of sand, soil or rock fragments, wherever she goes.
Her exploration of movement in painting led her to undertake a new experiment: the corner painting. This resembles an open book with a left and right-hand ‘page’: two pages of a bigger story. This new concept creates even more depth and movement under the flat surface.
Judith Dubois makes trompe l’oeil murals, portraits and decorated furniture pieces on commission.
